A site-specific multi-media installation consists of a sculpted reproduction of Ivory Anatomical eye models, 17th and 18th century from The Pharmazie-Historisches Museum in Basel, Switzerland placed on a glass shelves in the form of mass produced souvenirs at a Museum gift shop. Located inside Bimaristan Qalawoon.
The project is part of ongoing series that explores the space between object and history. It integrates links between the Islamic Ophthalmology history of Egypt and - the Western pharmaceutical artifacts, through observing the current anatomy of Qalawoon eyes hospital’s as well as the history of scientific studies that have been used for the development of medicine and pharmaceutical objects industry and how it is affected by the political and economic changes in Egypt.
The project was commissioned by Art D'Egypte organization for Contemporary Arts (Egypt) and Supported by MARMONIL Marble and Granite.
